This historic rehabilitation began with a home dating back to 1735. The original house from Sherburne was moved three times before being placed in a beautiful garden setting on Union Street. The present owner worked with Lyman Perry Architects to create a proper restoration and an addition that was sensitively integrated with the original historic structure. The home kept many of its original features including a spiral staircase, oversized fireplace hearth openings, and flared window openings. The added features such as a cased inglenook fireplace and framed views into the kitchen are reminiscent of historical Nantucket design. A view through a second floor window captures the panoramic view of Nantucket harbor and Main Street just a few blocks away. The result is a home that is a peaceful retreat from busy Union Street as well as an important historic landmark.
